Common Laurel Prunus laurocerasus
A robust evergreen hedge which grows well in shade or sun. Grows fairly quickly and creates a good screening hedge. Bare root is the easiest to plant without soil around the roots. The hedging plants will need regular watering between February and August. Pot grown or root balled is for larger sized hedging plants which can give an immediate effect, because the hedging plants are unusually more established it is more expensive than bare root hedging .

How To Grow
Cultivation
Easy to grow in any moist but well-drained moderately fertile soil in sun or partial shade. Superb hedging shrub but may become chlorotic on poorer, shallow chalky soils. Fast-growing, forming dense walls of foliage if not pruned and has the potential to become a nuisance

Propagation
Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings from late summer to autumn or hardwood cuttings from late autumn to late winter; propagate by seed in autumn

Plant Spacing
Bare Root Laurel Hedging – When planting smaller (60cm and below) Laurel hedging plants you will need 6 plants per metre, and for the medium size (60cm and above) you will need 5 per metre, and for the larger size (90cm and above) plants you will need 4.5 per meter.

Root Balled Laurel Hedging – When planting smaller (100cm and below) Lautel hedging plants you will need 3.5 plants per metre, and for the medium size (100cm and above) you will need 2.5 per metre, and for the larger size (150cm and above) plants you will need 2 per meter.

Pot Grown Laurel Hedging – When planting smaller (80cm and below) Laurel hedging plants you will need 3 plants per metre, and for the medium size (80cm and above) you will need 2 to 2.5 per metre, and for the larger size (120cm and above) plants you will need 2 per metre.
