Rosa rugosa – Dog Rose – a tough, tolerant and fast growing, the sprawling stems of this native rose will form a thick impenetrable hedge in record time. The pink-flushed, white flowers have a lovely scent and appear throughout summer. As they fade, glossy red fruits (hips) form, which add interest well into autumn. A wonderful addition to a wildlife-friendly garden as the hips are very attractive to birds.

How To Grow
Cultivation
Langley Horticulture recommend 5 plants per metre in a double staggered row. Grow in full sun with fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. For best flowering apply a balanced fertiliser and mulch in late winter or early spring and a balanced fertiliser again in early summer. Tolerant of poor soil and shade; suitable for hedging.

Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn or by chip budding in summer
