Details / Key Facts
Ilex crenata Japanese Holly, hedge plants offer a very similar aesthetic to Box hedging. This is due to the small, glossy green foliage and dense habit. The delightful Japanese Holly makes a wonderful low hedge that provides year-round interest. Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata) hedging is a hardy, low maintenance plant which, is becoming increasingly popular due to its multitude of gardening benefits.
The small round leaves found on Ilex crenata lead most gardeners to suppose that this is a member of the box family, but this is actually the Japanese holly. Found growing naturally in the higher parts of Japan and Korea, this smooth-leaved plant is well worth growing as a winter evergreen.
